The Spanish set their tone nice and early from literally the first drop Olija hooking up with a quality broomtail grouper, the group then provided consistent fishing all week capitalising on as many opportunities as possible, that being said they lost their fair share of XL fish, first day Xavier lost a gigantic Cubera and on the last day they had multiple losses from big ones also finding weaknesses in the tackle! All in all they had some quality roosters, groupers, almaco jacks, sharks and a whole host of other Jacks (lots of crevalle) and snappers amidst other species throughout the week, they was impressed with the quantity of fish.
Something you don’t see all too often, Olija was fighting a nice rooster of around 40lb, when all the sudden a huge Goliath grouper chased it boatside hoping for an easy meal, the rooster thankfully made a lightening fast run and managed to escape to be landed soon after, pretty cool to see though!
Kieren joined the group for one of the days and had some quality Almaco Jacks and Snappers on the slow jigs along with a wicked double shot of a nice size Almaco and Yellowtail Snapper on the same jig! Even he couldn’t believe how fussy the Roosters where being on topwater this week! However at one point during the day we witnessed a true Leviathan of a Roosterfish repeatedly attack Drew big popper but failed to get a hook hold, a monsterous fish most likely of the 80lb+ calibre, it was an unreal sight, a fish of dreams!
