This week we welcomed Oscar, Carlos, Matteo, Tony, José, Danny, José R and Juan over from Spain for a week hunting giants on the Azuero Peninsula, Panama.
The bite has seriously picked up this week in terms of big fish opportunities, some more opportunities fruitful than others when you get the upper hand on some of these powerhouse brutes! All 3 boats landed some serious fish this week with a fair portion more lost, as is common with species such as giant Cubera Snapper.
Moments to note: For Oscar it was when he had at least 6 solid Cubera all ambushing the same lure before he connected with a brute, a proper hair raising moment no doubt! Another boat almost had a XXL Cubera double hook up but as one was hooked, another went for another lure only to have a decent Rooster get their first, not all was bad for Danny and José but come on that would have been epic! In another instance a XXL Cubera was hooked and went straight for the reef and popped the lure, only to then have a solid Broomtail grouper hit the lure straight away, what an outcome from an otherwise unfortunate situation!
The Roosters showed a pretty steady showing this week, the best day was 14 to the boat, but on most days the guys were able to find some that was willing to feed with one of the better ones coming on the slow jig for Tony, which is always cool! Some nicer specimens for some of the guys with again a few big fish tactically finding freedom with their classic unpredictable and erratic fight.
The group managed a vast array and quantity of other species which are commonly on offer here, some great activity at times with some crazy hives of activity from the Jack Crevalles, Bluefin Trevally, Amberjacks and White Tuna which all provide some great sport when the hits are super regular.
