Panafishing Casting & Jigging
Popping and jigging is what our anglers live for — and it’s exactly what you’ll find here. We’re fortunate to operate in one of Panama’s most pristine fisheries, where fish still respond aggressively to artificials and haven’t been pressured by overfishing or the heavy use of live bait common elsewhere.
Our lodge caters specifically to active anglers who love to cast and drop artificials. Animating lures is by far the most rewarding way to hook a fish, but it’s also physically demanding — you should be ready to cast and jig all day for maximum action.
Don’t worry if you’re new to these techniques. They aren’t overly technical, and our experienced captains will have you casting and hooking fish in no time, making for an unforgettable, hands-on fishing experience.
Most of the action comes from casting poppers and sinking or topwater stickbaits, though spoons, flappers, swimbaits, crankbaits — or any lure you want to experiment with — can also be deadly. Spinning gear is ideal for this style of fishing, and it’s easy to see why so many anglers fall in love with topwater lures: few things match the thrill of a hair-raising strike exploding across the surface. We’re fortunate that the fish of Panama are aggressive and willing to hit surface lures with abandon.
Casting takes place over underwater structure, around rocky outcrops and islands, along beaches, or right into feeding frenzies. Anglers target a wide variety of species, including roosterfish, cubera and mullet snapper, yellowfin tuna, jack crevalle, bigeye jack, bluefin trevally, various sharks, rainbow runner, sierra mackerel, dolphin fish, yellow snapper, corvina, wahoo, and more — ensuring every day on the water is full of action and opportunity.
Trolling & live-baiting
At our lodge, we focus on active fishing with artificials, so trolling and live-baiting are minimal. These techniques can be arranged on request, but if that’s your preferred style, there are better destinations elsewhere. We don’t carry specialized trolling equipment, though occasional trolling can be done using the jigging rods to give your arms a brief rest.
We also avoid live-bait whenever possible. While effective, survival rates are low even with careful use of non-offset circle hooks, and as the only anglers in this pristine fishery, we prioritize sportsmanship and respect for the resource. Live-baiting can be used occasionally to save the day, but our focus is on the thrill of active angling — the explosive surface strike of a roosterfish or the powerful fight of a big amberjack on light tackle. That’s the kind of action that makes fishing here truly unforgettable
Chasing Tuna
While smaller yellowfin tuna up to 50 lbs are caught year-round on jigs and topwater lures, our true tuna season runs from May through October. During these months, tuna are abundant and often come very close to shore. Average fish sizes jump to around 80 lbs, and on the right day, giant specimens up to 300 lbs can be found just eight miles offshore — offering some of the most intense and unforgettable action for serious anglers.
